Liam, 8, who was diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome, decided to throw a carnival for his friends and ordered 70,000 lollipops on Amazon through his mother’s account. The total cost of the order was 4,200 $. Liam’s mother, Holly LaFaver, only found out about the purchase after it was delivered.
Amazon initially advised her to refuse the delivery, but the driver didn’t knock on the door or ring the bell, so the package was delivered anyway. In desperation, Holly reached out to her local Facebook community, which led to an unexpected outpouring of support: neighbors and local businesses bought some of the candy, and the family donated the rest to schools and churches.
After widespread media coverage, Amazon eventually refunded the full amount. The incident, while ultimately positive, highlighted the dangers of giving children access to devices with payment details attached.
