Attack on Cartier — luxury brand customer data in the hands of hackers

French jewelry house Cartier has announced a cyberattack that resulted in hackers gaining access to customers’ personal data.

Cartier has officially confirmed that its systems were hacked, as a result of which customer names, email addresses and countries of residence became available to attackers. The company assured that passwords, bank details and payment card information were not compromised. After the leak was discovered, Cartier specialists isolated the threat and strengthened security measures. In an appeal that is actively spreading on the X social network, the brand urged users to be careful of phishing emails and other suspicious contacts.

This is the third high-profile case among luxury and fashion brands in the past month. Adidas and Dior previously reported similar attacks. In their cases, names, emails, phone numbers and other personal information were also affected, although financial information, according to them, was not leaked. The massive attacks on fashion houses demonstrate that the luxury sector is becoming an increasingly attractive target for hackers due to the high status of its customers and sensitivity to reputational damage.

Although Cartier claims that critical financial data was not affected, the fact of the breach raises questions about cyber security in the luxury brand sector. Customers are advised to be vigilant about any contact on behalf of the company and immediately report suspicious attempts at communication. The incident highlights the importance of cyber hygiene even in niches that have traditionally been considered “off the radar” of hackers.
