The BlackSuit group said it carried out a cyberattack on Kansas City Hospice, which provides palliative care in the region, adding the organization to the list of victims on its darknet site.

The extortion group said it hacked Kansas City Hospice, a nonprofit organization that provides palliative care and support to patients and their families. There is no confirmation of the incident on the official website of Kansas City Hospice, and representatives of the organization have not yet provided any comments.

The BlackSuit group is known for its attacks on critical infrastructure and high ransom demands, sometimes up to $60 million. It is suspected to be a new version of the Royal group, which was active in 2022-2023 and used similar code for attacks. Kansas City Hospice is the region’s largest palliative care organization, founded in 1980. It serves 5,700 people annually and has more than 600 employees and volunteers. The attack on this institution once again demonstrates how ransomware groups target important organizations.

This incident underscores the need for stronger cybersecurity measures to protect critical infrastructure.
