CrowdStrike has reported recovering a “significant number” of devices affected by a global IT systems outage caused by an incorrect security update. The incident affected about 8.5 million Microsoft Windows computers worldwide.

The global outage that occurred on Friday disrupted the computer systems of many businesses, banks, hospitals and airlines. CrowdStrike apologized for the inconvenience and said it was rolling out a new patch to speed up system recovery. Businesses in the US, including Delta and United Airlines, were the most affected. Medical services in Great Britain, Israel and Germany were also affected.

Before this incident, CrowdStrike was one of the most trusted brands in cyber security. The company serves 29,000 customers worldwide, including the largest companies in the United States. The massive outage drew attention to the vulnerability of global computer networks and showed how a single incident can cause global chaos. China is virtually unaffected due to low dependence on Microsoft and CrowdStrike.
