Startup Figures announced that over the next four years it will produce 100,000 humanoid robots. This was made possible by signing a contract with the largest company in the US (the name of the company is not yet disclosed).
Why is this important? The company expects that large-scale production will reduce costs, improve the artificial intelligence of robots and significantly expand their use in industry. Previously, Figur collaborated with BMW to test robots at a factory in South Carolina; in addition to BMW, the company has a new major client that will allow it to widely implement robot workers. Potential partners include Wal-Mart, Amazon and Apple.
Figure is developing humanoid robots that can perform physical labor, including:
The company’s founder, Brett Adcock, said that the main task is to teach robots to work quickly, continuously and without errors. This is possible thanks to artificial intelligence, which is constantly improving the algorithms of the machines. If Figur successfully implements its plan to create 100,000 robots, it will be one of the largest projects in the field of labor automation. This opens up new opportunities for companies, but it also raises questions about the future of human labor. Are we ready for such a future?
