Google has announced the launch of Search Profiles, a new feature that allows authors and publishers to create their own profiles directly within Google Search. The new tool is designed to help users more easily discover trusted sources of information and explore content from creators across multiple platforms.

The new profiles function much like social media pages, allowing creators and publishers to showcase their latest articles, videos, and social media posts in one place. Google describes them as “a dedicated space for sharing content across platforms that helps audiences find accurate and up-to-date information about sources in Search.”

Users will be able to access these profiles in several ways. They can open them through an author’s or publisher’s Knowledge Panel on mobile devices, by tapping a name in Discover, or via a direct profile URL.

The profiles also support links to official websites and social media accounts. In addition, they can automatically display recent content from major platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Users will also be able to follow authors and publishers, making it easier to discover more of their content through Discover.

At launch, Search Profiles are available only to publishers and content creators with a substantial following on at least one major social media or video platform. Eligible users can claim their profiles and customize them to reflect their online presence.

Google also noted that claiming a profile may help generate a Knowledge Panel, the information box that appears in search results and provides a brief overview of a notable person, organization, or brand. Authors and publishers who already have a Knowledge Panel will be able to enhance it with an updated profile image, their latest content, and a direct link to their Search Profile.

The feature is initially rolling out in the United States. However, Google says it plans to expand Search Profiles to creators in other countries over time and introduce additional features in the future.

“We’re excited to see how these new profiles help publishers and creators shape their presence and showcase their work in Search,” Google said.
