Data reportedly stolen by the World Leaks hacker collective was posted online this week. CyberNews researchers analyzed some of the data and concluded that many of the files seem real. Although they have not identified any customer or employee personal data, the breach appears to be severe enough to possibly affect Nike’s ability to run its businesses efficiently, manage its global supply chain, and prevent counterfeiting.

CyberNews reports that the hackers have posted approximately 189,000 different files containing information about Nike’s manufacturing and corporate functions. Researchers at CyberNews believe that the information contained in the files appears to be genuine after analyzing sample data.

Researchers report that the leaked files contain Nike’s information regarding the measurement of garments, specifications of materials, prices for sale of products, life cycles of products, test results for products, and internal PowerPoint presentations and audit files for factories. This type of information could provide counterfeiters with significant information that could increase the likelihood of producing counterfeit versions of Nike’s products and ultimately take away Nike’s competitive edge. Nike stated that it has become aware of a possible cybersecurity incident and that it is currently investigating; however, the company did not confirm whether the leaked data belonged to Nike.
Hunters International is a well-known international ransomware cartel which is believed to have originated in early 2025. Unlike other types of ransomware cartels that focus primarily on encrypting data, Hunters International is also engaged in data leaks as part of their extortion scheme. They operate under an “extortion-as-a-service” model.
According to security experts, the leaked data spanned over the time period of 2020 through 2026, which means that counterfeiters could potentially create copies of Nike’s products prior to the product being officially released.

Because there is no apparent personally identifiable information contained in the leaked data, the sheer volume and the sensitive nature of the data will likely result in large amounts of financial and reputational harm to Nike. The data leak also points out that corporate data leaks can be just as detrimental as those that involve personally identifiable information.
