Mazda leaks information about employees and partners

Japanese automaker reveals that employee and business partner data leaked. In this case, the breach occurred when a vulnerability in a warehouse management system was taken advantage of to steal parts procurement data from Thailand.
In December, Mazda reported that attackers had accessed an internal system and compromised 692 records. The compromised data includes:
  • full names
  • email addresses
  • company names
  • business partner IDs
An affected system is limited to use for warehouse operations and does not involve customer data. “Mazda Motor Corporation: Detected traces of unauthorized outside access to a management system used for warehousing parts procured from Thailand; Mazda notified authorities and launched its own investigation with assistance from outside cybersecurity experts.
The breach was caused by the same system being somewhat attributed to a sensitive data exposure resolution. After the incident, Mazda took several steps to improve safety, including:
  • Reducing internet exposure
  • applying security patches
  • enhancing monitoring
  • enforcing stricter access controls
Mazda says it has seen no misuse of the data exposed, though it cautions those affected to be on guard for phishing and other scams. Notably, the Clop ransomware group advertised Mazda domains on its leak site in November 2025, claiming it was compromised, but this was never publicly confirmed. Exposures of even the most sensitive data can also lead to crippling security risks, particularly attacks involving phishing and social engineering.
Wired focuses on how vulnerabilities in auxiliary systems can allow attackers to break in and, consequently, breach data, as was the situation with the Mazda incident.
