Orange Belgium has reported a data breach affecting 850,000 customers. Hackers gained access to names, phone numbers, SIM cards and PUK codes, but financial information remained safe.

The cyberattack took place in late July when attackers hacked one of the operator’s IT services and stole some of the user data. The stolen data included names, phone numbers, SIM cards, PUK codes and tariffs of subscribers. The company stressed that customers’ passwords, email addresses and bank details were not affected. Orange Belgium said that immediately after the incident it restricted access to vulnerable systems, strengthened security measures and filed a complaint with the judicial authorities. All affected subscribers will receive a notification via SMS or email with advice on how to be vigilant against phishing calls and messages.

  1. This is the third time in 2025 that various divisions of the Orange Group have been hit by hackers. In February, an attacker using the nickname “Rey” stole more than 12,000 files from the Orange Romania network, containing internal documents and customer data.

  2. In July, Orange Group also suffered an attack on its own systems in France, which caused operational disruptions. The company has previously faced similar problems: in 2020, Orange Business Solutions was the victim of the Nefilim attack, which leaked corporate customer data.

The Orange Belgium incident once again highlights that telecommunications companies remain attractive targets for cyberattacks, and the theft of even minor data can be used for fraud and social engineering. Affected customers should be vigilant about suspicious calls and messages to avoid becoming victims of further attacks.
