ADT, one of the leading home security companies in the US, has faced a major cyber attack in which hackers gained access to its customer database. Personal data of the company’s customers was put up for sale on the popular hacking forum BreachForums.
Despite the proactive measures taken by ADT, the data breach highlights significant security threats that continue to exist even for large companies. Customers should be alert to any suspicious activity associated with their accounts and consider taking additional security measures.
ADT is an American company that provides security services for smart homes and small businesses. The company was founded in 1874 and today serves more than 6.5 million customers in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
On August 3, 2024, ADT discovered unauthorized access to its systems. It later emerged that the hackers, using the aliases netnsher and grimoire, had stolen more than 30,000 records containing personal customer data, including email addresses, phone numbers and postal addresses. The data was offered for sale on BreachForums for cryptocurrency. ADT immediately took steps to shut down access and launched an investigation involving cybersecurity experts. It is important to note that customers’ home security systems were not compromised and financial data was not affected.
