CyberBunker became famous after being featured in a Netflix documentary. It previously served as the headquarters of the meteorological unit of the German military Bundeswehr until its closure in 2012. The bunker was bought by the leader of the CyberBunker group in 2013 for 450,000 euros.
The bunker, built by the German military during the Cold War, was used by cybercriminal group CyberBunker to support the dark web, where around 250,000 crimes were committed, including drug trafficking, cyberattacks and money laundering. Around 650 German security officers took part in the seizure operation in September 2019, which led to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the operators. Now the state is looking for a buyer who would contribute to the regional economy and create jobs.
Although the price for the bunker has not yet been determined, several buyers have already expressed interest. It is expected that the new owner will use the facility for the benefit of the local community.
