Proton Wallet is available to all users starting February 11, 2025. It is a highly secure Bitcoin wallet that maintains anonymity and has a flexible fee structure, including premium features.
After a six-month testing period, Proton, a company known for its privacy-focused products, has launched Proton Wallet for general sale. At the time of release, over 100,000 users had already taken advantage of early access. The wallet is self-custodial, and Proton does not have access to users’ private keys. However, the cryptocurrency community initially questioned this, but the company responded by confirming full key independence. Proton Wallet currently only supports BTC, but in the future it may be able to store other cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies. The wallet also allows you to send BTC via email if the recipient also uses a Proton wallet.
Proton Mail has over 100 million users, and the launch of the crypto wallet is part of a strategy to expand the service. The wallet is available in three pricing plans, with a free version as well as a premium version that costs up to $29.99 per month and allows users to create up to 50 wallets with advanced features. ʼ
Proton wallets are a new step towards decentralized financial instruments with increased privacy protection. Time will tell whether Proton wallets can compete with the already well-known Bitcoin wallets.
