The state of Louisiana has sued Roblox, accusing the platform of systematically failing to protect children, a charge the company has vehemently denied and said it is constantly innovating to protect its users.

On August 14, 2025, a lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Louisiana against Roblox Corporation. The lawsuit, signed by the state’s Attorney General Liz Murrill, alleges that the company “knowingly facilitated the sexual exploitation of children” by failing to provide adequate safeguards and warnings to parents.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages and civil penalties, citing numerous cases of children being victimized by predators on Roblox’s virtual environment. The lawsuit alleges that the platform created an environment in which “predatory users thrive, causing grave harm to Louisiana’s children.” In response, Roblox issued a statement strongly denying any intentional failure to protect children. The company emphasized that in the past year alone, it has implemented more than 40 new safety tools, including AI-based age verification, enhanced parental controls, and improved content filtering systems.

Roblox also emphasized that thousands of moderators and advanced artificial intelligence models are involved in the fight against online abuse, and cooperation with the FBI, NCMEC, and other organizations allows it to respond quickly to dangerous cases.

  • Roblox is one of the world’s largest platforms for online games and user-generated content, visited by tens of millions of players every day. More than half of its users are children and teenagers. This makes cybersecurity issues critically important.

  • However, complaints about the company’s lack of control over content and attackers are not the first time. Regulators and parent organizations have repeatedly expressed concerns about the safety of virtual environments where children can encounter cyber threats.

Louisiana’s lawsuit against Roblox could set a precedent for the entire gaming industry: whether companies are legally liable for the actions of third parties on their platforms. Despite Roblox’s strong stance and extensive investments in security, the case raises questions about the line between the freedom of online communication and the responsibility of corporations to ensure a safe space for children.
