As a result of a special operation in Kyiv, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a henchman of the Russian special service who, under the guise of a chaplain, tried to join the Ukrainian paratroopers to collect information about their locations and movements. Military counterintelligence of the SBU actively works to prevent the activities of foreign agents and spies who try to harm the national security of Ukraine in the conditions of martial law caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation.

The agent, the chief specialist of one of the departments of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, was recruited by Russian military intelligence and tasked with infiltrating Ukrainian airborne assault troops. Using false documents confirming his “chaplaincy”, he hoped to establish a relationship of trust with the command and gather information about combat operations, weapons and work plans.

SBU employees timely identified and detained the traitor during an interview at the command headquarters, preventing possible intelligence activities against Ukraine. The detainee was charged with treason, which carries a life sentence.
