US senators have urged Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to cancel meetings in China with companies on the US export blacklist or with ties to China’s military and intelligence sectors, warning that such contacts could threaten US national security.
A letter from Senators Jim Banks (Republican) and Elizabeth Warren (Democrat) said Huang’s presence at meetings with companies that circumvent restrictions on chip supplies could legitimize their activities. Particular attention was paid to DeepSeek, which is suspected of illegally storing American chips. The senators also said that the free export of Nvidia GPUs to China could accelerate the development of China’s military capabilities.
Nvidia is under increased US scrutiny after new export rules were introduced that require special licenses for the sale of AI chips to China. Previously, these processors were actively used to train AI models, including those that could serve military or intelligence purposes.
The US authorities are trying to prevent the use of their own technologies to strengthen China’s defense sector. Pressure on Nvidia is part of a broader strategy to curb technology exports. Public meetings with Chinese firms, especially those on the banned list, can not only damage reputations, but also create the risk of violating the law.
