Snapchat has introduced a new Home Safe feature that automatically notifies loved ones that you have arrived home safely. Now you don’t have to write to your friends manually — the app will send a single notification as soon as you return to your geolocation.

For the feature to work, you need to specify your home address in Snap Map (via Bitmoji → “My Home”) and allow access to the location to specific contacts. After that, before leaving the house, just activate the notification — and when you return, your loved one will receive an automatic message in the chat.
Snapchat has emphasized privacy and security: the feature does not transmit your location to strangers and does not duplicate messages. By default, geolocation is turned off, so the user decides when and with whom to share data. Home Safe is aimed at those situations when the user goes on a date, goes out at night, returns from a concert or travels – and wants someone to know that he returned alive and unharmed.
Home Safe is an example of how social media platforms are taking on a new role as a digital safety companion, without violating privacy. The feature is unobtrusive, intuitive and focused on the modern needs of young people, especially in the conditions of urbanization and increasing danger in public spaces.
