Rydox was an online marketplace that specialized in selling stolen personal data, credit cards, device access, and fraud tools. American investigators charged Ardit Kutresi (26), Jetmir Kutresi (28) and Spend Sokoli, who operated the platform. The first two were arrested in Kosovo, and Sokoli was detained in Albania.
According to the investigation, Rydox had more than 18,000 users who purchased “full packages” of the stolen information. These packets included names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth and other sensitive data. The FBI created accounts on the platform and received 40 such packages as evidence.
Since the launch of Rydox in 2016, criminals have made at least $230,000. The Rydox.cc platform domain has been seized, and the servers located in Malaysia have been disabled.
Such cybercriminal platforms are important tools for selling stolen data and fraudulent travel guides. Rydox operated in the shadow Internet, attracting users with ease of registration and a wide set of tools. US law enforcement agencies conducted similar operations to destroy similar criminal networks. This case highlights the need for global law enforcement cooperation to eliminate criminal platforms and protect citizens’ personal data.
