Three hackers were detained in Ukraine who hacked more than 610,000 Roblox accounts and sold them online, earning about $225,000. The operation was carried out by law enforcement officers in the Lviv region together with cyber police and the Security Service of Ukraine.

Ukrainian authorities reported today, three individuals were apprehended by law enforcement and accused of hacking over 610,000 different Roblox accounts, selling those accounts for $225,000.

Lviv-based police reportedly carried out ten searches of the alleged hackers’ residences/locations, seizing $35,000 in cash, 37 mobile phones, 11 desktops, 7 laptops, 5 tablets and 4 flash drives.

According to reports, while Ukrainian prosecutors did not state specifically what gaming platform the hackers, 19, 21 and 22 years old respectively, targeted with the hack; however, prosecutors stated that the platform was indeed Roblox.

In a press release the Prosecutor General’s office noted: “Prosecutors in the Lviv region, along with cyber police and the Security Service of Ukraine, have disrupted operations of a criminal group that had accessed other peoples gaming accounts and used them as a revenue stream.” The statement continued: “This refers to Roblox accounts, which allow users to develop games, socialize and acquire virtual goods using Robux.”

Roblox is a gaming platform where users can create and enjoy millions of games. However, Roblox accounts do not solely relate to gaming. Users may utilize Roblox accounts to create assets within Roblox Studio and sell items to other users in exchange for Robux. As such, for some users these accounts possess monetary worth due to accumulated resource values and items that cannot be acquired elsewhere.

These accounts additionally provide access to years of gameplay progress and unlockable content and achievement rewards. Some accounts may even grant access to premium features of the service. In total, according to authorities at least 357 of the estimated 610,000 user accounts that hackers compromised between October 2025 and January 2026 were considered elite (“high-value”) accounts. Authorities believe that one individual was responsible for organizing the hacking scheme.

According to investigators, this suspect found accomplices among members of gaming forums to assist him in his scheme to obtain thousands of user names and passwords for free. The suspects allegedly promoted malware disguised as a gaming enhancer program on internet forums to trick unsuspecting gamers into installing malicious software onto their computers that would steal usernames/passwords from the gamer. Once the suspects obtained logins/passwords for a large number of accounts they would categorize each account based upon its value/rarity/remaining stock of Robux.

Afterward, they would sell the most valuable accounts to buyers on a Russian-language website or within private communities. The charges against the suspects include Theft (Article 185) and Unauthorized Access to Computer Systems (Article 361). If convicted of both crimes the suspects could receive sentences ranging from 10-15 years in jail.
