The UK has imposed sanctions on more than a dozen members of the cybercriminal group Evil Corp. Along with the US and Australia, which have also imposed additional sanctions, criminals have been subject to asset freezes and travel bans.

The Russian government-backed group Evil Corp is known for its attacks on critical infrastructure, healthcare systems, and government organizations. The group carries out large-scale cyber attacks using malware such as Dridex and GameOver Zeus. The leader of the group is Maksym Yakubets, who, together with family members such as Artem Yakubets and Kyrylo Slobodskyi, built a criminal organization that caused losses of more than 300 million dollars. Despite international efforts to stop them, Evil Corp continues to organize cybercrimes and collaborate with other criminal groups such as LockBit.

The Evil Corp group was founded in Moscow in 2007 and was originally called the Jabber Zeus Crew. Over the years, they have turned into a powerful cybercriminal organization engaged in blackmail and financial attacks. Criminals used different variants of ransomware such as BitPaymer, Dopplepaymer and WastedLocker, which allowed them to extort huge sums of money from victims around the world.

The sanctions imposed by the UK, US and Australia are part of a global effort to combat cybercrime. They aim to paralyze the activities of Evil Corp by limiting access to financial resources and prohibiting the movement of their members.
