Tools for Red Team

Tools frequently used for Red Teaming Engagements, Physical Security Assessments and Tactical Secret Entry

The Red Team is a group that plays the role of an enemy or competitor to provide security feedback from that perspective. Red teams are used in many fields, especially in cyber security, airport security, military and intelligence services. In the field of cyber security, a penetration test involves an attempt by ethical hackers to break into a computer system without the element of surprise. The Blue Team (the defending team) is aware of the penetration test and is ready to defend. Red Team goes further and adds physical penetration, social engineering and an element of surprise. The blue team receives no advance warning of the red team and will take it as a real invasion. A red team assessment is similar to a penetration test, but more focused. The goal is to test the organization’s detection and response capabilities.

The red team will try to infiltrate and gain access to sensitive information in any way possible, as quietly as possible. In this list, I’ve decided to share most of the tools I use in authorized events, including where to find some of them, and in some cases I’ll also add some other alternative tools. I do not provide information on how to use these tools as this information can be found online with some research. My goal with this list is to help fellow Red Team members with a “checklist” when they may be missing a tool and use this list as a reference for any tasks. I hope it will be useful and provide additional information. Stay safe and legal!

Tools

1. A camera with a large zoom

Alternative: If not Panasonic, you can use others. There are many good cameras on the market. Try to get a camera with more than 30x optical zoom. It should also work great

2. A drone with a camera

Recommended: DJI Mavic Mini 2

Alternative: Here you only look at your budget, and get rid of it. In any case, the drone will perform its direct function.

3. Action camera on the body

Recommended: GoPro cameras

Alternatives. There are other cheaper alternative action cameras, but the video may not have the highest quality or the best image stabilization, which can make the footage appear shaky or too dark.

4. A reliable flashlight

Amazon, Ebay, local hardware store.

Alternative: If you want to save money, you can always use your mobile phone’s flashlight, but some phones can’t dim the brightness.

5. Boroscope / Endoscope

Recommended: USB Endoscope Camera

Alternative: There are several other alternatives that vary in price, size, and connectivity.

6. RFID frequency detector

Card – its advantage is that it is about the size of a credit card, so it fits perfectly in your wallet for EDC use.

1. Screwdriver with nozzles

Recommended: Wera Kraftform

Alternative: Any reliable multi-tool of your choice.

2. Multitool pliers

Recommended: Gerber Plier Multitool

Alternatives: any reliable multitool to your liking.

3. Gaffer tape

Recommended for its portability: Red Team Tools Gaffer Tape

Alternatives: There are many other options on Amazon, but they are all larger in size.

4. A set of fine lock picks 0.025

It is recommended to purchase a well-known brand with a good reputation and quality products. Some of them: TOOOL, Sparrows, Southord, Covert Instruments
