Google has released a new version 131 of its Chrome browser for Windows, Mac and Linux, which fixes 12 security vulnerabilities, including high and medium level. The updates provide better protection for users by addressing risks reported by external researchers and internal auditors.

The upcoming version 131 of Chrome includes important security fixes for the popular browser. Among the fixed vulnerabilities is CVE-2024-11110. This vulnerability is very important because it is related to an exploit in Chrome’s rendering engine, Blink.

Other vulnerabilities fixed in the update include bugs in autocomplete (CVE-2024-1111), media files (CVE-2024-11112), accessibility (CVE-2024-11113), and navigation policies (CVE-2024-11115). Chrome also fixes other issues, including a long-standing bug in the Paint implementation (CVE-2024-11116) and a file system flaw.

To keep users safe, Google restricts access to the details of some bugs until most users have installed the update. In addition to external reports, the Chrome team also used its own security tools, such as AddressSanitizer, MemorySanitizer, and UndefinedBehaviourSanitizer, to identify further vulnerabilities.

Security updates are critical for Chrome, as the browser is one of the most popular platforms for accessing the Internet. Google is constantly improving its security mechanisms by attracting researchers through its bug fix bounty program. Google recommends that all Chrome users update their browser as soon as possible to protect against newly discovered threats. To do this, open Chrome’s settings, go to “About Chrome” and run “Check for updates”.
