US-based company Fieldtex Products has confirmed a major healthcare data breach following a ransomware attack. According to official disclosures, the incident affected at least 238,615 individuals, with the notorious Akira ransomware group claiming responsibility for the intrusion.

Fieldtex reported that unauthorized access to its internal systems was detected in mid-August. A subsequent investigation revealed that attackers may have accessed a limited but sensitive set of protected health information related to healthcare plan members.

The compromised data includes names and addresses, dates of birth, insurance member identification numbers, plan names, coverage periods, and gender. This information was provided to Fieldtex in connection with the fulfillment of medical supply and first aid product contracts.

The Akira ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack on November 5, listing Fieldtex’s E-First Aid Supplies division on its Tor-based leak site. The attackers allege they exfiltrated more than 14 GB of corporate data, including financial records and files related to employees and customers. At the time of writing, no stolen files have been publicly released.

Fieldtex Products specializes in commercial sewing, manufacturing soft-sided cases for medical and military use, and distributing medical and first aid supplies. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services healthcare breach tracker, the incident is officially classified as a large-scale healthcare data breach.

The Fieldtex breach highlights the growing exposure of healthcare supply chain companies to ransomware attacks. Even limited access to medical data can have long-term privacy consequences, emphasizing the need for stronger security controls, early threat detection, and rapid incident response.
