Two Europeans, Tomas Szabo of Romania and Nemanja Radovanovic of Serbia, orchestrated a “swatting” plot targeting the former US president and several members of Congress by creating fake emergency reports to intimidate and threaten dozens of individuals.
Tomas Szabo, a 26-year-old citizen of Romania, and Nemanja Radovanovic, a 21-year-old Serb, made more than a hundred “swatting” calls aimed at private citizens, public figures and high-ranking officials. They falsely reported bomb threats, mass shootings, and other emergencies, prompting an aggressive response from law enforcement agencies. One of their targets was identified as a “former elected official from the executive branch of government.” The attackers did not share political sympathies, but chose targets from both parties in order to “not be on either side.” During the three years of the conspiracy (from 2020 to 2024), they terrorized their victims throughout the United States.
The term “swatting” refers to the practice of making false calls to law enforcement to provoke an armed police response to a victim’s home. This dangerous practice, which threatens lives and drains police resources, is becoming increasingly common in the world of cybercrime. It is known that Tomasz Szabo and Nemanja Radovanovych coordinated their actions through online chats and received information about the victims from outsiders.
