Google launches Doppl, an app for virtual clothes fitting

Google has introduced Doppl, a new experimental app for virtual trying on clothes. It lets you see any look on a digital version of yourself, using artificial intelligence and regular photos or screenshots.

Doppl builds on the capabilities of Google’s previous AI Mode tool, which allowed you to “try on” millions of products. The new app goes further — the user can simply upload an image from Instagram, Pinterest, or from a store, and see an animated or static visual representation of the image on themselves.

The interface is simple: Doppl creates either an AI-generated video or an image with a virtual “copy” of the user. This way, you can evaluate how the item will look before buying it, even if it is not in the store’s catalog.

The app is currently available on Android and iOS in the US, but Google warns: the accuracy of fit, texture, and clothing details may be inaccurate at launch. Google is actively developing virtual shopping tools: back in March 2025, the company updated its fashion search engine, which allows you to write queries like “fur raincoat”, and the system returns image options and stores where you can buy them.

Doppl is part of this initiative. It combines visual search, AI rendering and UX modeling, giving users more confidence before buying online.

Although Doppl remains experimental, it is a powerful step towards AI-driving online shopping. It simplifies clothing selection, reduces product returns and provides a new personalized fashion experience. It is not a competitor to Zoom or TikTok, but it is a tool of the future for marketplaces and designers.
