Automaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced a major cyberattack that forced the company to shut down a number of systems. The incident led to significant disruptions to production and retail operations, but there is currently no evidence of customer data being leaked.

JLR said the incident occurred over the weekend, when companies are most vulnerable to attacks. Hackers forced the shutdown of several key systems, including those used at the Solihull plant, where the Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are built.

The company is currently working to restore global applications in a controlled manner, but did not provide a timeline for a full recovery. JLR representatives emphasize that customer data is unlikely to have been affected.

Earlier reports of failures came from dealers in the UK, who were unable to register new cars or order parts. Despite the serious consequences, no known ransomware group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

  • Jaguar Land Rover has been owned by the Indian company Tata Motors since 2008. The automaker produces more than 400,000 cars annually, generating more than 38 billion $ in revenue, and employs 39,000 people. In recent years, cyberattacks have repeatedly paralyzed businesses in different countries, and the automotive industry is a frequent target of cybercriminals due to the complexity of its production chains.

  • The cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover once again proves that even giants of the automotive industry remain vulnerable to digital threats. Despite a prompt response and controlled recovery, the company suffered serious losses. Experts emphasize that the automotive industry needs to pay more attention to cyber protection, because any production stoppage can cost millions of dollars and undermine customer trust.
