Microsoft Shuts Down Copilot Podcasts, Deleting All User-Created Podcasts

The company announced the shutdown on its support page. After that date, Copilot Podcasts will be completely discontinued, and all previously created podcasts will no longer be accessible.

“After this date, Copilot Podcasts will no longer be available, and previously created podcasts will also be unavailable,” Microsoft said.

The change will affect both free and paid Microsoft Copilot users. Since podcasts existed exclusively within Copilot and the service never offered an option to export or save them locally, all previously created content will be permanently lost once the feature is retired. Any links to existing podcasts will also stop working.

Copilot Podcasts allowed users to generate personalized podcasts on virtually any topic. Once created, they could be listened to through the Copilot web app or the mobile application.

News of the shutdown quickly sparked discussion online about how widely the feature had actually been used. One Reddit user questioned whether many people were creating podcasts with Copilot in the first place and whether they were willing to pay for the feature.

Others replied that they regularly used it to listen to personalized news briefings or generate short audio content for commutes and travel. Even so, many agreed that discontinuing the feature would likely affect only a relatively small group of users.

The announcement also drew comparisons to Sony’s decision to remove hundreds of purchased movies and TV shows from users’ PlayStation Store libraries.

“Sony’s decision to remove purchased movies from users’ libraries affects a large number of people and removes content they paid for without providing any alternative,” one Reddit user wrote.

Microsoft has not explained why it decided to discontinue Copilot Podcasts. Some users believe the feature simply failed to attract enough people to justify keeping it alive.

Others, however, worry that removing access to digital content could become an increasingly common practice across the industry.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon eventually removes all the Kindle books you’ve purchased. Once a few big companies start doing this, the rest usually follow,” another Reddit user commented.
