Real Madrid has introduced an early injury diagnosis system based on artificial intelligence and thermal imaging. The ThermoHuman platform allows you to detect the risk of injury even before symptoms appear, analyzing the temperature asymmetry of the athletes’ bodies with an accuracy of up to 0.3°C. The club is implementing proactive medicine – not to treat injuries, but to prevent them.
ThermoHuman is an AI platform that uses a thermal imaging camera to scan over 100 areas of the body and detect abnormal heating or asymmetries that signal potential overload. The technology uses data on heat distribution to detect microtraumas in muscles, ligaments or joints. If a temperature difference is detected in a specific area, the system signals a high risk of injury, even if the athlete does not feel anything yet.
Real Madrid has had a history of problems with muscle injuries in previous seasons. That is why the club has started implementing preventive medicine technologies, instead of the traditional response after injuries. ThermoHuman is already used by teams such as Atlético Madrid, PSG, Real Sociedad, as well as NBA clubs. This approach has reduced the number of muscle injuries by 70% and reduced rehabilitation time by up to 90%. The technology has already been integrated into all Real Madrid Next departments, including women’s football and basketball.
Thanks to the integration of ThermoHuman, Real Madrid creates a holistic system for monitoring the physical condition of its players. One scan – and the doctor sees where the problem is brewing. This allows them to personalize the load, adjust the training and avoid risky games for the athlete. This way, the team reduces losses from downtime, retains key players and increases overall endurance. This is not just technology – it is a revolution in sports medicine, where data and AI become the basis for decision-making.
