Take-Two Interactive, the owner of Rockstar Games, has sued PlayerAuctions for selling hacked GTA Online accounts and PlayerAuctions for illegally selling in-game currency. The company is seeking to ban the marketplace and seek damages.
According to court documents, PlayerAuctions makes millions of dollars in revenue from commissions on transactions on its platform. The site features thousands of ads offering accounts, in-game assets, and GTA V currency obtained through cheats and technical exploits. Take-Two claims that PlayerAuctions intentionally encourages users to buy illegal content by offering “post-purchase protection”—that is, if an account is blocked by Take-Two’s anti-cheat system, the buyer can get a refund to do so. The company has repeatedly demanded that the illegal activity cease, but the platform has ignored requests and continues to violate.
This is not the first lawsuit against PlayerAuctions: in February 2025, a similar complaint was filed by Roblox Corporation, accusing the platform of trading accounts, in-game items and player boosts through third-party services. It accused the company of trading accounts, in-game items and player boosts through third-party services.
Take-Two Interactive seeks to ban PlayerAuctions and stop the sale of hacked accounts and GTA Online currency. The lawsuit could set a precedent that will affect other platforms that deal in illegal content.
