A Thai court rejected a high-profile lawsuit by activist Jatupat Boonpattaranaksa, who accused NSO group of violating his rights through the use of Pegasus spyware.
Jatupat Boonpattaranaksa has filed a lawsuit against NSO group, alleging that the company facilitated his persecution under the Pegasus program. The activist demanded compensation of 2.5 million Thai baht ($72,129), access to the stolen data and removal from the NSO Group database. The court dismissed the case due to lack of evidence that his device was infected.
NSO Group says its software is only used to fight terrorism and crime, but critics point out that it cannot monitor the company’s customers, leading to abuse. The court’s refusal to recognize NSO Group’s liability has raised concerns among human rights activists, who emphasize that the sale of such programs without proper controls poses a threat to civil society.
