One of the largest torrent trackers, TorrentGalaxy, has unexpectedly disappeared from the network, leaving users without access to it. The operator has not commented on the situation, which has sparked rumors of a possible permanent closure of the platform.

According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, the well-known torrent site TorrentGalaxy, which is included in the list of “most dangerous pirate platforms”, has been down for several days. There has been no official statement from the operator, and the site’s moderators have no information about the reason for the shutdown. The unique situation is that the TorrentGalaxy download bot remains active. This has raised doubts among users about whether this is a technical failure, a financial problem or a possible takeover of the site by new owners.

  1. A few weeks earlier, TorrentGalaxy appealed to users for financial assistance due to difficulties in paying for servers. The community quickly collected hundreds of dollars in cryptocurrency. However, there is no evidence that financial problems were the reason for the closure.
  2. The platform has already faced several outages in 2024, including a mysterious “4ever?” message in June and a brief, unexplained unavailability in September. Currently, TorrentGalaxy’s homepage features an image from the movie Logan with the caption “TG(X) forever,” which leaves more questions than answers.
  3. The situation is further complicated by the fact that despite a change in ownership of TorrentGalaxy in 2024, the details have been unknown. This has led to widespread concern among users that the new owners may not have the resources or desire to support the platform in the future.
  4. In addition, in November 2024, a Dutch court issued a new order to block TorrentGalaxy, despite resistance from local ISPs. The court ruled that the anti-piracy organization had taken sufficient measures and that ISPs were required to restrict access to the site.

The shutdown of TorrentGalaxy has sparked a number of speculations, ranging from technical issues to a possible closure of the site. Since the operator has not provided any explanation, users can only wait and see what happens next. If the platform does not resume work, it will be another big loss for the file-sharing community.
