Yury Myronenko, head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (Derzhspetsvyazo), unexpectedly resigned a year after his appointment.

Myronenko, a former air defense commander, took over the SSSCIP in December 2023 following the scandalous dismissal of his predecessors amid a corruption investigation. During his year of work, he implemented several initiatives, including the launch of a secure document management system, digital analysis of enemy airstrikes, and the fight against illegal manipulation of television signals.

Mironenko noted that, despite the 60% increase in cyber attacks by adversaries, the implementation of system solutions reduced the number of serious incidents by 20 times. He confirmed that he is moving to the Department of Digital Transformation, but did not name his new role. His place in the SSSCIP was taken by Deputy Oleksandr Potii, who has more than 25 years of military experience and many years of experience in the field of information security.

This decision reflects the general trend of changes in the cyber sector of Ukraine. Over the past 2 years, there have been numerous personnel changes in the leadership of the Ukrainian cyber structure. In particular, in 2023, the former head of SSSCIP was fired on suspicion of embezzling $172 million in the purchase of software.

SSSCIP is one of the leading cyber security agencies of Ukraine, which is engaged in the protection of state communication networks and digital systems. Myronenko’s resignation is part of the reformatting of the Ukrainian cyber leadership, which continues to adapt to new challenges in the conditions of war and technological development.
