Andriy Kovalev was born on October 23, 1990 in Kyiv, Ukraine. He received an education in the field of information technologies at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. His passion for computers and cyber security led him to actively participate in the defense of Ukraine on the cyber front.
Kovalev began his career as a cyber security specialist and quickly built a reputation in the field. With the growing threat of Russian aggression, he focused on protecting Ukrainian information resources. He became known for his skills in hacking and blocking enemy resources.
Andriy “Tesla” Kovalev is one of the founders of the volunteer organization “Ukrainian Cyber Troops”. This organization deals with cyber security, protection of Ukrainian information resources and attacks on Russian and pro-Russian cyber structures. One of the first significant operations was the blocking of virtual accounts used to finance militants in Donbas.
The organization under the leadership of Kovalev carries out a number of important cyber operations, in particular:
– Blocking electronic accounts of terrorists: During the period of their activity, they managed to close hundreds of accounts on which millions of dollars were collected in support of terrorist groups.
– Hacking websites and DDOS attacks: They hack terrorist websites, block their accounts in social networks and carry out DDOS attacks on enemy resources.
– Audio and video intelligence: Recording of telephone conversations and videos of terrorists, which allows to expose their activities and transfer evidence to the relevant authorities.
Although the “Ukrainian Cybertroopers” actively cooperate with the special services of Ukraine, including the SBU, they often face bureaucratic obstacles and underestimation of their contribution. Much of the collected information is not always properly used by government agencies.
Andrii “Tesla” Kovalev continues to work actively in the field of cyber security, planning new operations and projects to strengthen Ukraine’s defense on the cyber front.
