How to set up 1Password on your computer, browser and phone

Installing 1Password works differently than most software, and its security features mean you have to take a few more steps than usual. But once you set it up, each password for each of your online accounts will be unique and it’s almost impossible to guess what will make your online life safer.

Step 1. Create a 1Password account with a strong master password

Before you can do anything else, you need to create a 1Password account. 1Password costs $ 36 a year.

As the name implies, 1Password is the only password you will need to remember from now on.

1Password gives you an emergency kit that contains a place to write down your password, as well as your “secret key” that you use to associate your account with 1Password programs (more on this below). Print it out and keep it in a safe place in your home, such as a fireproof safe. If you do not have a printer, write down the secret key number and password and keep this note in a safe place.

Step 2. Install the program for computers and browser extensions

Unlike most password managers, 1Password has both a desktop application and a browser extension. You must install both.

  1. Download the program for Android or iPhone.
  2. Log in to your account. Then use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code on the emergency kit, or enter the secret key manually.
  3. Finally, enable password autocomplete so that your phone can open Password Manager. On Android, open 1Password, then click Settings encem, > AutoFill and turn it on. On the iPhone, you can do this in the Operating System Settings app. Торкніться «Settings» > «Passwords and accounts» > «Autofill passwords» and in the “1Password” field, enable it «Allow filling with». You must also disable Keychain if it is enabled.

Step 3: Install the mobile application and enable filling in the password form

Finally, it’s time to run 1Password on your phone or tablet. To get the most out of it, you need to take one more step than just installing the program.

From now on, when you need to log in to your account in a browser or application, you’ll see a password prompt when you touch your login information.
