Hacktivist group Anonymous claims to have stolen and released 7 GB of documents from the Shimon Peres Nuclear Research Center in the Negev. Documents include thousands of PDF documents, emails, MS Excel and MS Word files, 28 ZIP files and PowerPoint presentations.

Anonymous has been conducting an annual coordinated DDoS attack called “Opt Israel” since 2013, targeting various Israeli agencies. Since the beginning of the war in Gaza, hacktivists have carried out a series of cyber attacks on government organizations and mass media, as well as industrial control systems.

Conclusion

Despite bold claims about the hack, Israeli cyber security experts reassure the public that the hackers managed to steal only unclassified documents and that there is no evidence of a breach of the institution’s operational network.
