In preparation for the November 5, 2024 U.S. general election, the FBI will establish a 24-hour command center in Tennessee to monitor and respond to potential election-related threats and enhance security.
The command center is part of the FBI’s broader election security strategy, which involves working with local, state and federal agencies. The main goal is to protect voters and poll workers from possible risks such as cyber threats, intimidation attempts, fraud and external interference.
In particular, the FBI’s election threat team, created in cooperation with the Department of Justice (DOJ), is engaged in identifying and responding to threats directed at election commission employees, who have faced increasing manifestations of aggression and intimidation in recent years. Centralized work allows agents to quickly analyze data and provide immediate response to threats to maintain the security of the election process.
The growing role of technology in the election process requires increased attention to cybersecurity, as electronic voter registration and vote counting systems are vulnerable to attack. The FBI works with other agencies to encourage citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious activity. The Ministry of Justice also ensures compliance with federal election legislation and emphasizes the importance of legal support for the election process.
Security measures implemented by the FBI are part of its adaptation to new challenges in the electoral field. Through its command centers and public outreach activities, the Bureau is committed to ensuring safe elections while protecting the democratic rights of Americans.
