Users have experienced brief screen flashes while gaming, browsing websites, and watching videos. The issue has been linked to the NVIDIA Game Ready 616.56 driver update.
NVIDIA’s latest graphics driver has caused problems for GeForce graphics card owners. Users are reporting a bug that makes their screens flicker.
The issue appeared after installing NVIDIA Game Ready Driver 616.56, released in late August.
X user Renan Maniero said he noticed his monitor flickering after installing driver version 616.56. Sometimes, the colors on the Windows taskbar also became distorted, but the display returned to normal after a few seconds.
According to users, the screen may briefly flash black and white. According to TechRadar, the issue has been observed while running certain games, including The Last of Us and Minecraft. The flickering also occurs when browsing websites and watching YouTube videos.
Maniero later reported that NVIDIA is already aware of the bug and is currently “testing a fix for the flickering issue.”
During testing, he noticed that the flashes occurred on monitors configured to use 8-bit color depth.
“Switching to 10 bits per channel or enabling Windows ACM resolves the issue,” Maniero said.
Other users have also suggested several possible temporary fixes. These include rolling back to the previous driver version 610.88, connecting the monitor via HDMI instead of DisplayPort, or disabling Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO) in Windows 11.
