Online retailer SelectBlinds’ customer data has been hit by a cyberattack after hackers planted malware on its site and stole customers’ payment details. The company has already blocked user accounts and urged them to change their passwords.

In reports filed in California and Maine, SelectBlinds confirmed that the malware was discovered on September 28, 2024, but it appears to have been active as late as January 7. As a result, the attackers gained access to payment information, including usernames, passwords, shipping addresses, card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV codes; SelectBlinds explained that malicious code was injected into the payment page to collect customer data.

Known as e-skimming, this malware is often used by hackers to infiltrate vulnerable online stores where people shop. The software collects sensitive data from payment pages, which can then be sold or used for fraud.

Scams like this are becoming more common among hackers looking for opportunities to collect credit card information. Records of millions of cards collected in this way regularly appear on the darknet. The SelectBlinds case highlights the seriousness of the threat to online retailers and the need for stronger security measures to protect customers’ payment information.
