Not sure what you want to listen to? Or want to learn more about your favorite artist? Selected Spotify Premium users can now ask Spotify to enhance their listening experience with its newly introduced “Talk to Spotify” feature.
When eligible Spotify Premium users open the Home or Now Playing tab in the Spotify mobile app, they’ll see a new “Talk to Spotify” prompt.
They can chat with the music streaming service to choose what to play, learn more about the music they enjoy, explore their listening history, and dive deeper into podcasts and audiobooks without ever leaving Spotify.
All they have to do is type a question or tap the microphone icon and start speaking. For example, Spotify Premium users can ask the platform to play artists they’ve never listened to before, switch to a more upbeat genre, or save a song or artist to one of their playlists.
Talk to Spotify also provides additional context. While listening to music, a podcast, or an audiobook, users can ask about artists, authors, their stories, or other background information.
The new feature also lets Premium users explore their listening history to see which artists and genres they’ve been enjoying recently.
“The new conversational experience is part of our ongoing work to make Spotify more personal and useful for every listener by giving people more ways to get the most out of every listening moment,” Spotify said in a blog post.
The Talk to Spotify beta is rolling out gradually to Spotify Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden on Android and iOS, with support for English only. Spotify has not announced when the feature will become available in other countries or whether it will support additional languages.
Previously, Spotify also addressed the risks associated with AI:
“At its best, AI opens up incredible new ways for artists to create music and for listeners to discover it. At its worst, AI can be used by bad actors and content farms to mislead or deceive listeners, flood the ecosystem with ‘slop,’ and make it harder for genuine artists to build their careers.”
