Tesla has officially opened its first branded Tesla Diner & Drive-In in Hollywood – with a retro-futuristic design, movie screens and 80 charging stations. But will this become a new global trend or another spontaneous project by Musk?

Against the backdrop of Tesla’s falling profits in the first quarter of 2025 (–71%), the company has decided on an unexpected expansion into the restaurant business. The Tesla Diner, opened in Hollywood, impresses with its exterior – in the “Googie” style, with a flying saucer on the roof, a bar and a panoramic terrace. Inside – screens for watching movies, an Optimus robot and a merch zone. The establishment supports the concept of Tesla as a lifestyle brand, complementing the Cybertruck, energy products and branded accessories.
Musk himself has already stated that “Tesla will open such establishments in the largest cities in the world”. However, the question of whether there will be demand is still open: loyalty to the brand has been shaken by political scandals and Musk’s creation of his own party.
The Tesla Diner idea has existed since 2018. Even then, Musk hinted at the creation of restaurants with charging and entertainment. But it was only in 2025 that it came to fruition. Such a move could turn out to be both an unconventional marketing campaign and another “toy” of Musk, prone to fading due to low profitability or loss of interest from the creator himself.
Tesla Diner is not just a charging point for cars, but Musk’s attempt to reinvent public space. But will it become a successful model? Time will tell. As of now, it is more about spectacle and brand than about the restaurant business. However, a successful combination of Tesla’s fan base and consumer culture could turn this idea into another viral success story.
