More than 92,000 people’s information, including names, dates of birth, and IDs, was exposed in a data breach by crypto-payment company Transak. The company confirmed that the incident affected about 1% of its customer base and did not affect users’ financial and confidential information.

Transak, one of the largest infrastructure providers for crypto-payments, said the incident was the result of a phishing attack on one of their Know Your Customer (KYC) service providers.

  • The attackers gained access to personal data such as passports, driver’s licenses and selfies of users.
Ransomware group Stormous said it stole 300 gigabytes of data, threatening to sell or release it unless the company paid a ransom.
  • The company assured that customer funds were not compromised as the platform is costless and does not store either fiat money or cryptocurrency.
  • Transak serves about six million users in 160 countries around the world and allows you to buy and sell more than 170 types of cryptocurrencies and NFTs. After the attack, the company hired a cybersecurity firm to investigate and stop the breach, and reported the incident to regulators in the UK, EU and US.
