A cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover has resulted in the exposure of payroll and personal data belonging to thousands of employees, marking one of the most damaging cyber incidents ever recorded in the UK industrial sector.

The company confirmed that attackers gained unauthorized access to data used for managing payroll, employee benefits, and staff schemes affecting both current and former workers. As a result, thousands of individuals may now face an increased risk of identity fraud.

While the full scope of the compromised information has not been disclosed, it is believed to include names, home addresses, bank account details, tax codes, national insurance numbers, and salary information. Employees have been advised to remain vigilant and adopt stronger digital security practices.

  • The cyberattack occurred in September 2025 and severely disrupted Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing operations, forcing the temporary shutdown of factories in Halewood, Solihull, and Wolverhampton. According to the UK Cyber Monitoring Centre, the incident has been classified as the most damaging cyberattack in the country’s history.

  • To prevent layoffs and protect supply chains, the UK government issued a £1.5 billion loan to the automaker. The Bank of England later noted that the attack had a measurable impact on national GDP growth. The intrusion has been attributed to the hacker group known as Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters.

The Jaguar Land Rover breach highlights how cyberattacks on major manufacturers can ripple far beyond IT systems, affecting employees, production, and even national economic indicators. The case underscores the growing need for robust cybersecurity strategies across critical industries.
