Geoint Challenge (Part 12) Finding the coordinates of Mom’s hacker

Finding a location by coordinates is a skill that will come in handy in OSINT investigations, local history research, or just for your own development. In this article, we will take a detailed look at the process of finding your mom’s hacker’s location by coordinates.

Description

The place indicated on the map is located in the administrative center of ………. territorial community in the region of the hometown of the “mummy hacker.” Using the YouControl service, the registration data of the “mummy hacker” was found, which pointed to Kharkiv (Fig. 10.1-10.2). This made it possible to narrow the search area to the Kharkiv region. Next, we need to investigate the administrative centers of the Kharkiv region.

Having found a list of territorial communities, only those administrative centers were selected where it is possible to view panoramas on Google Maps. (Fig. 10.3) The list included: Bezlyudivka Valky Zolochiv Berestyn Lyubotyn Mala Danylivka Merefa Oleksiivka Pisochyn Slobozhanske.

To further narrow the search, it was decided to focus on the road pattern found in the panoramas. In particular, a characteristic branching of the road was highlighted, which narrowed down the possible options (Fig. 10.4).

After several hours of searching, we managed to find a suitable road template in the city of Lyubotyn – on Shalyapin Lane (Fig. 10.5).

Conclusion

Thanks to a combination of OSINT methods, including analysis of geographic coordinates, satellite images, Google Maps panoramas and registration data, it was possible to narrow down the search area and find the exact location of the mother’s hacker.

Using YouControl, the connection with the Kharkiv region was confirmed, after which the analysis of the panoramas allowed us to highlight specific settlements. An additional search using the road infrastructure template led to Lyubotyn, where the desired location was found.
